About Me
Hi, I’m Barissa
I’m so happy you’re here. As a weight inclusive, non-diet dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor, I’m passionate about helping people create a nourishing and flexible relationship with food. I received my bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Texas State University and completed my dietetic internship at Oregon State University. I now run my own private practice in Indianapolis, IN where I was born and raised. I utilize different evidence-based treatment modalities to fit your needs such as motivational interviewing, Ellyn Satter model, principles of family-based treatment, CBT, and ACT. My aim is to provide a safe space for all bodies by providing weight inclusive care and practicing from a Health At Every Size lens. This means I focus on behavior changes (food, movement, sleep, stress, etc.), not weight changes. It is important to me that we work together as a team as nutrition is not meant to be a one size fits all approach.
When I’m not working, you can find me…
-
Spending time with my family (husband, baby, two dogs, and cat)
-
Walking, hiking, or just being outdoors in general
-
Probably eating potatoes somewhere
-
Finding new and fun activities to do
Growing up as a CODA (child of Deaf adults), with both my parents and brother being Deaf, I have been immersed in the Deaf community since birth. I’ve spent endless hours at the Indiana School for the Deaf attending my brother’s sports games and various events. I always knew that I wanted to work with the Deaf community, so I am so glad to have the opportunity to combine my two passions.
